PETER CAPALDI STEPPING DOWN AS DOCTOR WHO

I've just read on Twitter that Peter Capaldi, the best Doctor since the BBC brought the series back IMHO, is leaving the show at the end of 2017.

I have to say, I'm sad about that. Being a fan of the classic series, I liked an older, more believable Doctor, rather than the hip youngsters which appear to be more popular these days  (my least favourite incarnation from the classic series was Peter Davison )

But, at least we can still  look forward to the new series with Peter starting in a few months time.

  1. I like Capaldi in the role, but then again, I'm not very discerning, I've liked all of them so far!

  2. After watching Dr Who from the first episode back in '63 and having put up with ever worsening versions of the character over the years it was interesting to briefly have Christopher Eccleston lose the campiness that destroyed the previous run of doctors.
Yes it was good that Capaldi took us out of the kindergarten years, but when scenes of his with the Scots woman playing The Master degenerated into un-followable brogue it became impossible to follow the dialog which is hard enough given the made up science babble.
Would it be possible to have an English Doctor again with little stories that do not involve saving the universe every week? More charming stories like the visit to see Vincent Van Gogh for example.

    1. Thanks for your comment Terranova47. When it comes to the choice of a new Doctor I suspect opinions from folk of our age group are not even considered. Producers will be trying to please younger viewers and, dare I say it the PC brigade. There's a good interview in the current Doctor Who magazine with Terrance Dicks who makes some good points about what type of actor should play the Doctor.
