Thunderbirds Are.... gone!
Way back in 2004, Carlton were looking at revamping Thunderbirds for a new audience. Rather than go down the big screen, live action route, they apparently felt that it would be better to stick with a tried and trusted formula and use puppets as opposed to the much less realistic actors that were used in 'Thunderbirds The Movie'. A lot of cash must have been thrown at the project and a promo reel was made showing some high end effects and a lot of effort in the overall design of the new show. However, as you can see from the video, it unfortunately suffered the same fate as the film version and came closer to 'Team America - World Police' rather than the show we all know and love from our childhood. Although the designs of the craft are suitably 'beefed up', the cheesiness of the dialogue and the rather portly Scott skipping about on screen with uncharacteristic glee let the whole project down before it even gets started. But even before that, the tagline 'Thunderbirds gets wilder' had me reaching for the off button straight away...
Oh my Giddy Aunt! What is that video! What's happened to thier faces? meltdown? I'm so pleased they didn't make it. But then again they did make the awful live action version! Wonder what Gerry thought about it?
