Sounds like a canvas or sacking!

ReplyDeleteJust checked on Google, and its a hanky, as you guessed.
ReplyDeleteThough the framed object is 18" × 17", without the frame, the hanky would be about 12" × 12", which sounds about right for a childs hanky.
