Auf Dem Mond: Familiar to SpaceX Fans

I was intrigued by the surface instrument on the cover of this old German Board game. The device will be known to fans of Apollo Moon Exploring space toys.

Inside appear to be more great illustrations!

I can see a gorgeous moon base, a beautiful moon buggy and even a MEV2, all familiar to SpaceX toy collectors.

I like the astronaut playing pieces too.

Here's that Moon Buggy.

And a bit of the MEV2.

There's a sister game, Flieg Mit Zum Mond, but I've yet to find the contents of it.

Do you like these games?

  1. That moon gizmo looked very familiar. I was wracking my Schoolboy memories for whether it was the laser ranger or the moonquake thingey.
Then an Acronym floated up out of my dim distant past - ALSEP.
And sure enough, here's an Aussie from Honeysuckle Creek to tell you all about them.

  2. That's no MEV-2, but a Bendix design for a moon buggy. Which by luck I have on my page here

    1. Ta Paul. Great link. It was those orange wheels that threw me!

  3. There's some really nice artwork. Makes me wonder if the illustrator was a toy fan or maybe he just went to the store and bought some toys to copy!

    1. I think he'll have copied contemporary photographs from magazines or a book at the library. The moon buggy is almost like a photograph on my page in terms of perspective, and the Lockheed moon base looks pretty much like how it was depicted in their concept illustrations (see my moon base origin page), cut-aways and all.

  4. The gizmo on the box is part of the ALSEP and is the Passive Seismic Experiment Package, for detecting moonquakes. Bill

  5. The second game and a third space variant, which uses some of the pieces from it are viewable on Board Game Geek. Space Station has some nice miniatures in it! https://boardgamegeek.com/image/1898936/station-fx-2 Bill
