Well, all the November Christmassing in the shops, on the telly and trees appearing in homes has put me in an early festive mood, so much so, I've written my dozen Christmas cards and sent them today!
I know, I know, it's still November, but I've sent them 2nd class so it'll probably be December when they get there!
Restricted to just family these days, is it still too early to be sending Xmas cards?
What do you think? Do you still bother? Do you send e-cards or texts?
My late Mother had her cards out in late November. Most people said they knew Christmas was on the way when they got their first Christmas card from Mum. I am not that organised, but I try for early/mid December.
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice tradition still but it's on the wane Paul. Now I'm retired there are far less cards. I used to get loads from school staff.
DeleteXmas Cards were such a big deal here in the 60s and 70s, but fell out of favor when the dreaded internet reared its ugly head. Another nice tradition, killed by progress! SFZ

DeleteFor over a decade, I've written and drawn a zine style Xmas card every year about what me and the Missus have been up to. I'm planning this year's right now.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I'll slip in an In Memorium for a popular culture figure. I remember David Prouse and Tim Brooke Taylor featuring one year. This year it was going to be June Lockheart...
Sadly 2025 has been a horrible year for us personally. We've lost five friends and our next door neighbour of 30 years won't see out the year. I'm scratching my head over the good things that have happened this year...
So sorry it's been a bad year for you guys Looey. It's our age group sadly I guess. Only this week I got tragic news of a close ex-colleague's passing. Just 52 and a sport teacher. Gone way too soon but his struggles are over. It is our job to grieve and remember.
