Now That's a Big Batmobile

I saw this massive plastic Jada Batmobile in a charity shop. The 12 inch figure was sat at the wheel, so you can imagine how big it is.

I was sorely tempted at £3.50. this thing is even bigger than the fabulously big Mego batmobile.

I resisted ,(the one pictured is on eBay) but was reminded of the film The Batman, which I've begun watching for the second time.

It's a tough watch, simply because it's 3 hours long and filmed largely at night-time.

I'm plodding through. Two hours to go!

It doesn't help that the new Batman has a non-descript face under the mask and looks like a depressed teenager without it, floppy dark hair and all. It's hardly Affleck and miles off Keaton.

The whole hard-boiled noirness has gone into overdrive and everyone is subsumed into a Nirvana-hooked darkness, literally. Characters are blurry shadows in an endless wet night. No-one stands out, not the Penguin, Catwoman or Gordon. Not even the Riddler, all drowning in spilled ink.

Maybe it's just me. After all this flick reached the Oscars and promises a whole new Bat franchise, the Penguin riffing in his own series already and The Batman 2 coming out in 2027.

I dunno. It's just not DC. Maybe it's too DC. Come back Tim Burton, Gotham needs you!

What do you think readers?

I've gone to bed.

  1. I did like the new take on Batman.....the dark settings were very different to what we are used too with the DC character....over done in a lot of places but interesting takes on various people in the storyline....the style of direction I got used to it as it moved forward.....to compare with previous Batman films....Keaton superb...Val Kilmer....different style liked it....Clooney not really....further back Adam West....liked the comedy style - not serious in anyway - the 1966 Batmobile loved the car......probably the best car in all the films / TV series over the years...Richard Dixon .

    1. It's an interesting take on Batman I agree Richard. There's been a slow sure slide towards realism. Just look at the Joker film. I agree that the 1966 car is the best too!

  2. I need to watch the Patterson Batman film again. I quite liked it on first viewing. I liked the idea of the Batmobile as a standard vintage muscle car with a jet engine shoehorned into it. And Andy Serkus as Alfred was great. I liked the idea of the Penguin as a Mafia hood. I felt the idea of doing a toned down, reality based Batman was a refreshing change.
George Clooney was wasted as Batman with a terrible script.
He would have been better as the grizzled burned out Batman in Justice League:Mortal than blonde surfer dude Armee Hammer!

    1. Have you seen Birdman with Keaton as the grizzled burned out ... Keaton Looey? Fascinating self-aware flick!

  4. Sorry Woodsy the batmobile you saw was the Spinmaster version, lots of customisers are using it for the McFarlane Batman action figure, at 7" it's a better fit for scale, Mattel did a 1/12 scale rc batmobile that was around $100, maybe it's cheaper now...
