ROAD TRIP

This Sunday, I took advantage of an impromptu road trip to a local beauty spot, Heskin Hall in Lancashire. Like many similar old monuments, the outbuildings in the grounds have been converted into shops and cafes, but the Tudor hall itself, despite being used as a wedding venue, remains largely unmolested. It was built in the fifteen hundreds and is said to be haunted by two ghosts from the Civil War period. It certainly looks the part on the outside, with crumbling ivy encrusted brickwork and tiny mullion windows dotted about the walls. Inside it holds a small antiques fair, with junk crammed into various rooms on the upper floors, but there was nothing to tempt me today.
Instead, I opted for taking some architectural shots, with an orange filter on the camera and shooting in black and white.

Having got a few photographs of the upper stories, it was impossible to shoot any lower, as the grounds were hosting a classic car rally, so there were lots of crowds milling about.

The classic cars were all comparatively modern, with some wonderful American models, a few German and Japanese and the usual British Morris Oxfords and Ford Anglias.

One courtyard did have a great display of Mustangs, with two gorgeous sixties models tucked in a corner.
A well restored classic Chevy truck caught my eye too.

The two Mustangs were best in show for me, as I do love a good classic period muscle car.
But then as I turned around a corner, I found even these were trumped by an awesome Plymouth Fury, bonnet raised to show its innards. Now that’s real muscle!

  2. Having just come back from the world of UK stately homes, I can really appreciate your architectural appreciations!
And vintage cars are icing on the cake!
Call me an old geezer, but I can't get interested in today's marques.
When Porsche and MG issue SUVs and they appear almost identical, my enthusiasm is well and truly kerbed!
