OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN

Badges were given away with everything in the sixties and seventies, sweets, crisps, toys, comics - everything had a badge to go with it. My latest find is the Walls 'Sky Ray - Moon Fleet' Captain badge, which was given away with Sky Ray lollies, after you had meticulously collected the Moon Fleet card set from each wrapper and ordered the two mini albums to fit them all in!

The Project SWORD range had some of the best badges ever, with their set of four rank insignia, starting with blue Astronaut for the small models, yellow Captain for the mid-range, red Commander for the bigger ones and the super scarce white Supremo for the super models like Zero-X. Being a poor, sad unhappy child, I never had a Century 21 Zero X (or a Johnny Seven for that matter!) so I never saw the Supremo badge till I was all grown up and invited round to Moonbase, where the Lord of Sword strutted about with a full set. Luckily, Bill Everatt of Celtica Radio, took pity on my poor unfortunate self and had a badge reproduced via 3D printing and kindly presented me with one as a gift!
Another cool badge I have come across, which is clearly reminiscent of the Sword line, is this plastic Astronaut badge. Its gold foil embossed and has the usual safety pin fastener, but I have no idea who made it.
Next, another firm favourite, the Triang Spacex II series Commander badge - obviously following on the success of Project Sword. Unfortunately, a toy with a very short shelf life, as they appeared just before the company was dissolved.

Back to the Zero X once more (and I still haven't got one) and the Fanderson metal pin badge of the crew logo patch, from 'Thunderbirds Are Go!' film. More of a shield than a badge, as its huge compared to the others.
Finally again from Fanderson, the quite sublime metal enamel Project SWORD Astronaut badge, a replica of the original, which was instigated by our very own Woodsy and made available to Fanderson members for a short time.
