I think these were the world's first injection moulded plastic kits. not bad for nearly 90 years old! Some Moonbasers who like kits might be interested .
Beautiful, a rare treat indeed. I have never seen a Frog Penguin in the flesh. The Penguin line of non-flying kits were introduced in 1936. I think only the De Havilland DH-86A is pre-war, with the parts held in place with string. The smaller, plainer boxes with loose parts - the Me-110, Mustang, and Hurricane, look to be post-war. The line was revived after the war for a few years, and several newer aircraft types were added to the range. Thanks for the photographs.
Excellent look at some truly historical models Will. I vaguely remember 'FROG' brand kits as a kid but don't believe they were a big seller in my neck of the woods.

ReplyDeleteI don't think a RR engined Mustang kit could be pre-war as it wasn't devised until 1942.

ReplyDeleteThese are definitely acetate mouldings. Styrene was not used until the 50's.
