CENTURY 21 ZERO X- S,W.O.R.D. BY DEFAULT

A few simple snaps of the Century 21 Zero X toy, seen several times on the blog, that managed to find itself part of the S.W.O.R.D. fleet.

The box doesn't mention Project SWORD at all, and to be fair hardly mentions the film Thunderbirds are Go.

The toy does get a mention at the end of the accompanying  SWORD manual, and there's a SWORD badge, generally speaking a 'Supremo', but also, I've found on some occasions an Astronaut Badge is included instead.

There also mention of Zero X in a couple of the TV21 Project SWORD text stories, and a  reprinted cut-away in the SWORD annual, reproduced in colour from the 1967 TV21 Spring Extra Thunderbirds Special.

  1. Another round of excellent photos Scoop. I look at this thing and can't help but wonder if something like this could actually be airworthy. I guess the only way to know is for someone to build a small R/C proof of concept version to see if it would work!

    1. Obviously, I don't think Derek Meddings would concern himself with airworthiness, Ed, but I imagine you're right, build a model and see if it flies.
Although some of the modellers who do R/C aircraft displays at airshows, somehow manage to get most things to fly . I went to one were I saw a flying wheelbarrow! : )

    2. That would be fun to watch. I have seen reels & shorts of oddball flying models. Some were basically just kites with small motors.

  2. Perhaps the crown jewel of the Supermarionation universe! And of course it can fly - did you see Thunderbirds Are Go! All the way to Mars! SFZ
