Woodsy and Fellow Moonbasers,
I loved seeing Wotan's photos of his Cherilea spacemen.
Also, I'm now on the lookout for a suitable Lunar 'pod' or similar - some little accessory piece in-scale to the figures to use in photos. It's funny how the Tri-ang, Golden Astronaut, LP line of spacemen have a plethora of nice, suitable accessories in-scale (more-or-less) to the small figures.
Then when we get to 35mm/54mm/60mm sized figures I don't see a whole lot. Either I'm not looking hard enough or lack the imagination to see what might be appropriate..
Here's shots of my Marx-issued Cherilea-style spacemen. None of them have bases as the originals did and the Marx logo was molded into the belts on all of them.
I found these to be a bit frustrating in that, due to the lack of bases, the legs were often bent/malformed such that they were impossible to stand up. I had to use the boiling water-dip method to straighten the legs sufficiently for photography purposes.

So we can assume that Marx are the granddaddy of the line, then Ed! I knew there were lots of variants of them, but didn't know Marx had started them off. It makes sense really, as they made so many of those lovely early space base sets. Bill
ReplyDeleteHonestly Bill, I don't know who was first. None of my books have any details on them, but the photos of Marx carded sets that I've seen appear to be from the 1970s.
