ROB'S CONVAIR SPACE SHUTTLECRAFT: ARTS AND KRAFFTS

Woodsy,

Here’s my attempt to build the Atlantis reissue of the 1959 Revell model, the Convair Space Shuttlecraft, a concept design by Krafft A. Ehricke. Not my best work, but a fun build of a cool design!

Hope you like it.

  1. The finish looks fine to me!
So many people (myself included) hamper themselves by deciding they're not good enough. Just go with the flow, that's much more enjoyable.
    You can always tell yourself
(as I do) "I'll do better next time!"

    1. We are always our worst critic, aren't we? I used to think I was a good modeler, but then I came across the internet, and you fellows who do master work, and I was humbled. Still, its such a fun hobby, and as you say, there's always room for improvement!

    1. Concept spacecraft of the 1950s might be my favorite model genre, and this one was really fun to build.

A great looking model, especially the fact that it has interior detail. Atlantis have certainly given us a chance to build some kits that have not been available in decades, from many of the major and minor US kit manufacturers.

    1. Yes, I am a devoted fan of Atlantis now, after getting this kit. Its kind of a miracle that we can still build some of the models from our youth, and being an eternal adolescent, that's just fine by me! If I had made this model back in the day, I would have ignored the interior and figures, because they were too hard. Now, its my favorite part!

  4. Its one of my favourite model kits, a lovely design and a great kit. I picked up the Revell original some years back and repackaged it as Project SWORD! Bill

    1. WOW! Your Project SWORD Nuclear Shuttle is a fantastic "What If?" And I like your color scheme better than mine! It sure is a pretty ship...

  5. I built one of those!
It didn't come out as well as yours, but I did.
    Great Job! :)

    1. Thanks, these concept spacecraft models really bring me back to better days. I have the Glencoe reissue of the old Stombecker "Man in Space" Mars Rocket in the stash to build someday, but I have to figure out the best color scheme for that one. Anything but white!

  6. Stunning work SFZ! I love it and the finish is wonderful! A classic, the top shuttle recalls the Dynasoar and I love the little silver passengers inside it! They remind me of the passangers inside the SWORD Nuclear Ferry! Well done SFZ!

    1. Thank you, this one was fun overall, although of course I see a million things I woulda/shoulda done differently. I have a couple more old spacecraft models in the wings waiting to be built someday... Wotan's rendition of this kit is the brilliant one, though.

    1. Revell made some very cool kits in the early days (their Atomic Power Plant being the “Holy Grail” of collectors), and their concept spacecraft kits were some of the coolest. It’s great that Atlantis is reissuing some of these. SFZ
