I'm sat in the shade and just about to start the novel Toxin by Robin Cook.
You'll know his work, mostly medical disasters. I first came across him via a film of one his early books, Coma.
I adored Coma and still do. Michael Douglas et al. Richard Widmark gives it some old Hollywood class too. A fabulous flick and the scene where we first see the hundreds of coma patients hanging from the ceiling at the 'institute' was and is truly scary.

Love the film Coma, never read the book. I’m re-reading now (for the umpteenth time) Verne’s “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.” Something about prototypical science fiction still gives me goosebumps. That, and early horror by Poe and Lovecraft, I could revisit forever. SFZ
ReplyDeleteOddly enough SF I used to collect copies of 20 000 Leagues. I was an avid book collector in the 90s. I have about ten different versions of it. Beautiful covers. I collected any J Verne I came across. I seem to recall the most obscure Verne was one called Carpathian Castle.

DeleteI love the Disney version of 20,000 - the design of the Nautilus is wonderful, especially good when you see it speeding along towards the ship, just beneath the waves, cockpit 'eyes' glowing. Love the title btw - very musical!
