DUTCH CARRAIGE

I'm always interested in new boxes. Here's a Dutch variation of the Space Safari set I saw on Boonsart online; Ruimte Safari.

I really like the bold box art lid and retro art on the sides.

Looks like the brand was Hema. Anyone know it?

  1. HEMA is a Dutch chain of "grand bazaar" type stores like Woolworth's, Woodsy.
They mainly (or I think only) sell own-brand products. Started in the mid-1920s and spreading beyond the Netherlands.
Name is an abbreviation of Hollandsche Eenheidsprijzen Maatschappij Amsterdam (Dutch Unitary Prices Company Amsterdam) because they had standard prices for their wares.
Online at https://hema.nl (or try https://www.hema.com/de-de because you now German).
Next time you're passing through the Netherlands, stop by a large one and with luck they'll have a counter selling buns with their famous-in-the-Netherlands Hemaworst warmed up (akin to smoked Gelderland sausage but sadly only available in the Netherlands).

    1. Thanks for the detailed info Paul. As regards Dutch snacks I always enjoy a Frikedelle and a Krokette when I'm visiting the Netherlands. Breadcrumbed and delicious.

  3. That is one glorious box! Boxes had to be catchy, so us kids would want to grab it and own it. There were toys I had where I loved the box as much as the toy inside. SFZ

In some cases the box was far better than the toy.
