I always enjoyed THEM! as it had a fair degree of reality as opposed to giant apes or dinosaurs.
Insects will inherit the planet no matter what men do to it!
Besides, it has James Arness not as the deadly dull Marshall Matt Dillon of Gunsmoke/Gunlaw or the creature in The Thing from Another World.
It also had a touch of Quatermass and the Pit when underground.
Here's my diorama pics. Hope you like THEM!

I liked the Deadly Mantis the best
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool! The era cars really make it. And I won’t even ask where you rounded up those icky giant ants! Well done! SFZ
ReplyDeleteThis is terrific! Love the diorama work. While I was never into monster flicks the same way I was into Westerns, 'THEM' does rank as one of my favorite movies - monster or otherwise! Again, terrific work!
ReplyDeleteA thing of beauty - if you like giant ants. I have seen this movie a couple of times, and it is a true classic of 1950s cinema. The diorama perfectly captures the look of the movie. A great piece of modelling.
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff, Terra, I can almost hear that eerie sound of those ants. THEM is definitely the best 50's creature feature!
ReplyDeleteA great job with those period Cop cars too! It must have been a hard choice when planning this diorama -go for Cops in the desert or GIs in the LA sewers!
ReplyDeleteHmm, there's nothing stopping you making a sequel diorama!
Fetch the ant powder! Geat stuff Terra - I loved Them! as it used actual practical effects rather than a superimposed spider like Tarantula! Black Scorpion has some nice model work too, almost to harryhausen standard, until they do a close up of the scorpions goofy face! Bill
ReplyDeleteLoved the film - have the repro poster on my man cave wall. A big mention for the other star, James Whitmore, who played the hero role and died at the end. He went on to play ‘Brooks’ in one of my favourite films The Shawshank Redemption.
ReplyDeleteLove it Terran! A great way to spend an afternoon, create a THEM scene! If you feel the urge to do any more just send in the pics!
ReplyDeleteTHEM! is one of my favorite science fiction films.
ReplyDeleteVery good acting, Very good characters, Very good writing.
It all makes it much more believable, and being believable, that makes it much more scary.
Great Job on the Diorama!
I can almost hear the spooky screechy ant noises!
That's a fantastic diorama packed with great detail. You knocked it out of the ball park. I love these old Sci fi movies.
ReplyDeleteA fine niche diorama there Terranova.
ReplyDeleteThe cars are good, but the gun firing cop, in the correct pose, really sells it.
A well researched model. Great work.
