I read this today on DVD talk. It mentions an old Century 21 Prop shop at Pinewood. Anyone know what that was?

Good review of Journey. When I lived in London years ago I took a trip out to Pinewood and walked through the Century 21 prop shop. They had some really cool stuff in there. While I was there someone mentioned the 'teleconference scene'. Apparently they had problems with getting the monitors to sync, so they gave up and put people on stools behind the flats with holes cut for the screens. They put some mesh to fuzz up the picture, and presto... teleconference! Best, Mel
Like the "poor man's bluescreen" used in Tomorrow Never Dies. The background behind Bond in the fighter jet is a piece of plywood with clouds painted on it!

DeleteShop is mainly an American term for workshop, if that is any help ? I assume the workshop where they made the various props.
ReplyDeleteWhen Gerry Anderson's Century 21 TV productions closed down in tne early 70s the props and sets were stored and rented out to other productions for several years. For example parts of sets and spacesuits from UFO were seen in Bond movies, Dr Who, Blakes 7, The Goodies etc. Sounds like it's the same company. The teleconference scene is the one in Anderson's 'Journey to the far side of the sun'. Sometimes simple is best!
