I still see lots of Painting by Numbers kits in toy and stationary shops. They really have stood the test of time.
There were always one or two sets on Christmas morning in the Sixties. I can't recall specific designs but nature was always a staple.
I'd like to think I had some Gerry Anderson sets but I just can't remember!
Did you get Painting by Numbers sets readers?
I had a few sets in the 1970s, with oil paints. There was a set with two pictures of horses heads; a couple of medium sized landscapes, and one or two larger landscapes, one of which had a pair of deer in it. I do not recall any others. A few years ago I got a set with acrylic paints and a picture of a Red Arrows Hawk - no idea where that is at the moment. I recently bought a Colour by Number set with coloured pencils and three pictures of Big Cats (Lion, Tiger, and Leopard). I have not started these yet. When I looked it up, I found that Paint-by-Numbers sets have only been around since the early 1950s.
ReplyDeletePaint by Numbers where a staple under the Xmas tree in the Sixties. My Mum often left them unwrapped, scattered among the prezzies for me and my bruvvs.
DeleteHated them as a kid, as the paints always dried up before you could finish and the end result looked like a patchwork quilt. Colouring books and magic painting books were always my thing
