NO, NO, NO! Jon Pertwee was the best, Tom is number two, I'll give you that Scoop, but too much comedy, old Gummidge was the best, and that's true! It IS!
Ha,ha! I can't really argue, Hugh, as I think both Pertwee and our Tom are equally as good as each other, as both bring something unique to the role. Saying that, I probably watch more Pertwee stories than Baker.:)
Happy Birthday Tom indeed. 88, a grand old age. I wonder how old that is on Galafrey? Fpr me it was Pertwee and Baker too that were my own personal Doctors. Stories like The Sea Devils and the Monster of Peladon were stand-outs in my childhood. I once owned a Tom Baker doll for a while in a box. Bought it from classified ads in the 90's. It went on my old vintage toy stall. Such an iconic look, the hate and the coat and especially that scarf! I wonder of anyone has a scarf like that now?
I had the Denis Fisher doll, which had the head of Gareth Hunt, and the Denis Fisher TARDIS, both are long gone. I've still got a (sadly non-talking) Product Enterprise Tom Baker Dr Who,
I've got the Denys Fisher Cyberman and Giant Robot, the Palitoy Talking Dalek, the Strawberry Fayre War of the Daleks game, the Genesis of the Daleks and Dr Who and the Pescatons 12" LP records, two or three of the 4th Doctor annuals and a more recent Tom Baker Scarf. Blimey, it's a bit of a collection, I guesse ! None are boxed or in pristine condition though.

DeleteNo, I'd go for William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a problem with either of those two, Andy, although if I were forced to chose Hartnell's portrayal would be just ahead of Troughton.
DeleteSCOOP is correct, THE Doctor was the original, William Hartnell.
ReplyDeleteThe Bill Hartnell years were certainly enjoyable, Terra.
DeleteI must confess I enjoy all of the first four incarnations of the Doctor to varying degrees, but I never took to Peter Davison's younger version.

DeleteActually, I've still got a fourth Doctor last season scarf, which my wife knitted for me years ago!
DeleteThe only Tom Baker era figure I purchased and still have is the Cyberman

Sounds like a great collection, Mish. I never worry whether things are in mint condition or not. It's just good to have a few vintage examples.
