Remco Movieland Drive-in Theatre

Hi

Here is the Remco Movieland Drive-in Theatre toy (the British spelling of theatre is used on the toy itself, rather than the US spelling, which is only used in the YouTube titles), which had a working projector. First up is an advertisement for the toy. The set included six toy cars, which look to be tinplate.

Then a very brief look at how the film strips were loaded - the 'films' were simply a series of still images, like many other toy movie projectors.

This one runs through the Mighty Mouse film. I do not know if further films were available separately.

  1. A friend recently got a vintage Land of the Giants "movie viewer" off eBay, and it was even more crude than the Remco item, being a tiny hand-held viewer with a strip of badly reproduced black and white comic strip panels you put through the viewer. Really couldn't even see them. Elsewhere, toys such as Kenner's "Give-a-Show" Projector would feature actual 8mm films, and those, we loved!!!

  2. How wonderful. I love film based toys. I had the Marx Flashy Flicker, which was a film rifle. Ive bought and sold a couple of them too pver the years. Great fun. I remember the Phantom on the box like it yesterday!
