I'm glad to see that Ideal's Robert the Robot and his XL5 namesake makes an appearance on this nice robotic piece of artwork, but which of your favourite metal men or women are missing?
What about, K9, Polyphase Avatron, Zeroids (both), cubes, Twiki, Federation Security Robot (B7), Silent Running drones, Lost In Space robot and Futurama's Bender? Oh, and the Kaldorian robots from DW.
Bender's in amongst them, Kev. I would have thought the original Lost in Space robot should have appeared, though, and possibly the Silent Running drones. K-9 should have made an appearance too. I suppose we could stretch it that Ideal's Zeroids are represented by Robert. The Terrahawk Zeroids could be represented by XL5's Robert.Twiki is definitely AWOL.Doctor Who robots' you could say are represented by The Giant Robot. It would be nice to have seen something from Blake's 7, but, unless you're a fan I don't think many would recognise a robot from that series, but definitely worth a mention. Nice one Kev.
Certainly looks like it, Mish. I take it you're not a fan of Kamelion. On a slightly different tangent, I must admit, while I find Peter Davison a very pleasant fellow in real life, I'm not a fan of his portrayal of the Doctor. I felt he was too young for the part, and consequently didn't pay too much attention to his three seasons. These days, of course, The Doctor, with the odd exception seems to get younger with each regeneration, and the less said about switching gender the better. But I guess that's progress.:)
Kevin D already pointed out LIS's B9 and the Valley Forge drones which were my first thought as to missing members. Maybe its an age thing with the artist! Still a nice piece of work. Speaking of robot/Beatles mash ups, I have a T shirt titled Imperial Road. It features the Abbey Road image with the fab four on the zebra crossing being R2D2, C3PO, K2SO and BB9!
If you have doubts about Peter Davison's Doctor, watch The Caves Of Androzani. It's his last episode in the role, sadly, but it's a great script and he absolutely rises to it, totally nailing his version of the character.
I remember watching the story when it first aired Mish, and fairly enjoying it. I can't say I recall much about it though, apart from the Fifth Doctor regenerating and the Sixth Doctor saying "not a moment too soon!"

DeleteNeither the Elektrobots or Selektrobots from the Dan Dare story 'Reign of the Robots' are there. The Mekon will not be happy?
ReplyDeleteYes, Dan isn't represented by anything there, Terra, as far as I can see.The Mekon is going to be livid.
DeleteThose of you in the NW better hope The Mekon in The Atkinson doesn't hear about this. Lockdown will be the least of your problems!
DeleteAbsolutely Terra!;D
DeleteIs that Kamelion from Dr Who I see behind Data and Kryten?
ReplyDeleteIf so, why is he included ?
He's nobody's favourite robot !

Being the shortest, R2D2 was probably Ringo!;D

DeleteDon't know if these are supposed to be all TV and movie related robots, but there's no Thunder Robot, a true robot toy icon IMHO!
ReplyDeleteIdeal's toy Robert is there, so not just TV and movie robots. The Thunder Robot would be welcome!
