AN ECHO OF COMBAT


This Combat Car on Ebay this year looked great. 

Unusually it had a box too so I kept the picture.

The toy itself looks incomplete, missing its tailfin and missiles. 

I love the Century 21-style Zero-X blue plastic.

 The toy reminded me of my own Echo Car toy.

    This looks to be the same model as the No.305 Space Combat Car, shown on the side of the box of my No.304 Mechanical Fish toy, previously shown on Moonbase Central. If so, it would date from the 1960s, and have been made in Hong Kong.

    After an adventurous journey in eBay universe, the Combat Car pictured landed at Helsinki Base some time ago. Although pretty sleek as it is, missiles and tail fin gladly added if any loose ones around!

    As Paul noted, Mechanical Fish (No. 304) features on the side panel of the box along with Space Radar Car (No. 303) and Combat Car (No. 305).

      Helsinki Base strikes again! Yay! That rear fin looks like the one at the back of the x-30 Space Explorer Arto. Have a look see.

    Still muttering to myself about getting outbid on the first lot it appeared in. Grumble grumble.
    At least its gone to a good home.
    More mutterings as I didnt bid on it second time round as I was after a nice X30. That got snatched from under my nose and reappeared the next week at near triple the selling price. (And its still on ebay at amd even higher £225). Yah boo sucks.

    I've mentioned this before, but the basic design of both the Combat Car and the Echo Car are remarkably similar to a 1966 Midori plastic model kit, Planetoid Echo-7, released in the US and Canada by Paramount Hobbies. I wouldn't even be surprised if the Echo Car and the Echo 7 used the same molds.

    Those missile launchers look like scaled-up versions of one made (I believe) by Lone Star, which were much copied in Hong Kong.
