I have just found these on You Tube. A pair of short programmes showing old comic book ads, and what you actually got in the mail if you sent in your pocket money. Very interesting.
It also mentions a book called Mail Order Mysteries: Real Stuff from Old Comic Book Ads, by Kirk Demarais, 2011. I remember borrowing this from the library a few years ago, it covers the same sort of ground.
