As the UK sinks further into Corona meltdown I'm expecting my employer, an English school, to shut this week.
My own efforts this week to get advise about my asthma and whether I should self-isolate has come to nothing as neither my employer nor my GP will commit themselves. Clearly self-isolation has to be above board so I get some form of pay.
The Education Secretary may give me the answer today at 5pm when there's a TV address in England.
In the meantime I'm contemplating what I should do should I need to 'shield' myself for 12 weeks next week.
Blogging for sure. Writing in general a definite. Probably a lot of Moonbase Junior childminding as we are expecting our second Grandchild, who we will not be able to see straight away. Maybe some gardening when the Spring actually arrives, which could involve growing fresh veg this year! I shall also be helping Missus Moonbase get back on her feet after a knee op last week. What will you do readers?
The thought that a virus could attack from any direction at any time is increasingly terrifying and enough to make me keep my distance from folk but zero social contact will be almost impossible, especially over a 3 month period. There's some foodstuffs like fresh milk that will be needed and more importantly medical prescriptions from the GP.
There are also elderly friends that need help so I'm unsure how that'll work. We'll have to leave food and medicine on the doorstep and phone them up regularly.
Services and business seem to be shutting down around us and soon I don't think we will be able to get anywhere at all unless by car. The UK is not yet on lockdown like Italy and Belgium but i think it's coming soon.
So I hope you are keeping well and safe wherever you are readers and your'e government is helping the people get through this global catastrophe.
Keep in touch with Moonbase and keep blogging!
hi Woodsy, here we come out only for food, work at the moment suspended.i leave food and newspaper in my parents elevator, they are 75 and 80 yo.always wear mask..
ReplyDeletemore time for blogging and to take care the colections :) ew
Good luck EW. Are you in Spain?
DeleteItaly,Genova..the situation is better than other part of italy but the only thing to do is to stay home... stay safe dear friend.ew
DeleteThis is getting scary. Just 20 cases in NZ so far, mainly those who have travelled overseas - and the Government has advised all Kiwis travelling overseas to return home - that is about 80,000 people, some of whom are likely to be infected, so the number of cases is certainly going to go up. Take care of yourself Woodsy, and good luck to everyone. At least we have our collections to distract us from the real world.
ReplyDeleteSorry, forget to add my name to the above comments.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck Paul.
DeleteTime to break out the expensive whisky and watch a box set of Terry Nation's BBC TV series 'Survivors', the 1970s version of course.
ReplyDeleteThat last comment was from me, Mish, by the way.
ReplyDeleteEr ... Mish.
I'm making my Yorkshire tea a bit stronger these days Mish. Alas, my Dad drank enough Bells whisky for all of us so I stay clear of the stuff.
DeleteI've already had an upcoming trip to the UK cancelled and the WorldCon in NZ is looking dodgey too. Blogging and discovering the arcane mysteries of electroforming are high on my list of stay at home pastimes.
ReplyDeleteStay safe everyone!
You too Looey. Keep healthy.
DeleteHealthy and holding my ground at Monster Base.Working a night shift in a remote area with minimal staff.Best wishes to everyone, this too shall pass.
ReplyDeleteStay safe Brian. Monster Base is needed!
DeleteUp to 28 cases in NZ. From tonight only NZ citizens and residents (and their families) will be allowed in. Had a meeting at work today regarding the virus, steps to take, they have decided to trial the use of gloves. This sort of thing has never happened before in NZ, at least in my lifetime. Meetings of over 500 people banned earlier in the week, now reduced to 100. Model fairs cancelled. It is so quiet at work that I have run out of things to do, and my boss said to take tomorrow off. Called in at the supermarket for a few things, but bare shelves in many areas already. Every day there are new Government measures. If NZ also goes into lockdown, at least there are plenty of old movies to watch, and models to build, until the darkness ends.
ReplyDeleteYes Paul, the darkness. It feels like it. Stay safe.
DeleteYes, lots to do, writing, reading, watching old shows on Youtube/Dailymotion, and trying to avoid unnecessary contact. Maybe even making a model or two. Might even get some work done!
ReplyDeleteThink it will be a lot longer than 12 weeks...
I do too Andy. And it could come back!
