Here in the US and the many broadcast documentary/dramas of the landing, there is an overlay of Science Fiction movie classics, Forbidden Planet, War of the Worlds, Destination Moon etc. Star Trek original series and the brilliant parody of same, Galaxy Quest.
All of which raises the question: Will there be a new public interest in Space Exploration on the level of the 60's and the Race to the Moon?
Glad its gettin lots of attention in the home of NASA and Apollo. meshing in Sci-Fi is a great idea. I hope the next space boom begins but I think the last one was a 'race' which kept it going. Not sure what the next race will be and who between. Mars? USA and China?
We're getting lots of documentaries marking the occasion here in the UK. I'm not sure whether we'll get a renewed general public interest here though, unless a return to the Moon is started in earnest, with Mars as an eventual target, and even then something political has got to drive it, plus there's the cost which would be astronomical (pardon the pun) of course.
A nice shortcut to remember the event.
