This is an interesting article on various Soviet space planes including the Spiral.
There's a really great looking model Spiral as well. It does remind me of Task Force 1.

The report was written by Bart Hendrickx of Belgium.
The Spiral 50 50 came up on the blog in 2010 - yep, 9 years ago! - as a result of an article in the Andersonic fanzine about Century 21 Studios model design.

The original Soviet Space Program is an amazing legacy, with some extra-cool design concepts. I bought on ebay some years ago, vintage paper models (!) of some Soviet spacecraft. Some day I will scan them and send them along - they are very "Swordy". I never built them, but the illustrations on the covers tell all. Truly beautiful, and quite fanciful in some cases.
ReplyDeleteThose paper models sound really atmospheric Zigg.
DeleteThere are a few so-so jpgs of some of them floating around on the net, but I will make it a summer project to scan the covers of the ones I snagged from a very kind collector in Russia a few years back, and send them along via email. They are very much in the spirit of this website, I think. The main company that produced them (in Poland, I think?) was Maly Modelerz.
