Hello Woodsy

Further to the recent battery in the home debate here are two DIY Battery toys from the 60's.

  1. Helicopters and racing cars, both popular themes of the day.
These kits, boxes, and instructions, are in immaculate condition.
    Wonderful, considering their age!
Have you had them in your collection for a long time, Terranova?

    1. My favourite of the series was the Paddle Steamer Medway Queen which I still have somewhere. The racing car I've had since the early 70's I think the helicopter was bought in Polks Hobby Store around 1980 more because I was surprised to see it in NYC.

  2. Yes, I remember these. Think I had a motor torpedo boat in the same series.

  3. Beautiful! The early days of plastic model toy kits. How well I remember. And the true sign of an obscure kit from a small company was the box design, using black and white and spot color instead of 4-color. For some reason, those boxes really scream "early 60s" to me...

  4. Scalecraft were lovely simple kits. Ive got the remains of the Chieftain Tank and Saladin Armoured Car in the loft, but recently came upon this beauty: http://projectswordtoys.blogspot.com/2009/08/air-we-go.html

  5. I don't know how the other models faired when assembled but Medway Queen the Paddle Steamer had to have a partially drained battery otherwise the paddles splashed so much water into the Paddle Box that it choked the forward speed.

  6. The Queen was a bit fiddly, the black hull on mine was a bit mishapen, so the deck wouldn't stay flat.
