Have you ever encouraged someone else to collect vintage toys?

Have you ever encouraged someone else to collect vintage toys readers?

I think I may have influenced my daughter, who now n her thirties, is aware that the toys she played with are now considered as vintage and collectable.

My old toy stall helped a few folk with their collections and I enjoyed chatting about vintage toys. I even help a few with their wants lists, which they left with me.

One thing I've never done but thought about is doing a talk on vintage toys. You know, a slide show of some classics of the space genre and a few intelligent-sounding segways between them.

Even more ambitious might be a full night school course in collecting toys! A nice dream but something for greater minds than mine to consider.

Have you spoken to others about toy collecting readers?

  1. Yep, most of my firends collect 80's and 90's items like toys, game consoles, model kits - mostly Japanese stuff.

    1. That's a great set of friends Ran. Do you compare toys with them?

    2. Comparing prices, where to buy them. Where are sales etc.
Also after that there is a WAR, which machine.unit is better, what to "detail up" it, which paints to use, is it "accurate to the show" etc.

And if those are console games, we try play it on split-screen or compare hi-scores etc.

And if there is a way to meet at Gaming or Anime conventions then it is even better. If not there are always forums, blogs and internet communicators where we can discuss and show off

    3. Sounds like you have a great collecting life Ran! I used to be far more active, like you are, when I was younger. Collecting old toys consumed me!

    4. When I was younger I wanted to grab anything from series, doesn't matter what or do I have place for it. It was more like drunk on collecting

    1. That's why you need friends who like OTHER series than you, but still gives you connections and inform when they see on sales items you like.

  4. My customers at the Barber shop are actively encouraged to collect and I've passed on my own collectibles to them also. Kid's comment reminds me of a story... a number of years ago I found a carded Bobafett figure that had Ralph Mcquarrie's original concept art, the figure had been painted as per the movies, so I sliced it open, painted it all white and detailed it in the way Mcquarrie intended and then gave it as gift to one of my mates. He was blown away but after a number of libations he thought he started seeing through what I had done, " I think you've fucked me with this figure! You've taken out the highly collectible white figure and painted some piece of crap you found at Asda"!!! I replied with" that's right I've substituted a piece of crap! After all I've collected ALL the Batman, now I want ALL the Star Wars"!!! There's just no pleasing some people! -Mark J Southcoast Base

    1. Hmm, a salutary tale MJ. Star Wars brings out the best and worst in collectors I bet. It is after all a battle between the force and the dark side. I imagine Boba Fett figure arguments have broken out all over the empire since 1977. We are all his bounty!
