Plastic Fantastic: Italian Ferry, Spanish Carrier

I recently put these two toys together.

On the left is a large yellow plastic car ferry from Italy and released by Renam of Naples.

On the right is the older white Aircraft Carrier complete with SpaceX-type spaceships released by Bullycan of Spain.

For completeness here are the two makers' details from the toys themselves.

and a few shots of them on their own

Have you got a toy ferry or an Aircraft Carrier readers?

  1. I have a very similar car ferry that was made in Argentina. Possibly an exchange of moulds.

  2. On checking photos, not the same moulds at all.

    1. Thanks Tone. There's something appealing about ferries and they make great toy designs.

Is the aircraft carrier meant to be an American Essex class ship ? If so, CV-39 USS Lake Champlain was used as a recovery ship for both Mercury and Gemini space missions in the 1960s, giving the toy a real-life space connection. If it is not an Essex this does not apply. I do not think Lake Champlain had an angled flight deck, which the toy appears to have.

    1. Sorry Paul, I don't know what ships they are meant to be. You know more than me.

  5. Nice car ferry, I've seen some similar sold with the name Eldon. I picked up something similar recently, I'll send a photo, but this one has no maker's name. I vaguely remember having something similar as a child, so I expect there were lots of variations.
