We've seen this large toy many times before on Moonbase, the impressive chunk of plastic called Super Pantera [Super Panther] by Guisval of Spain.
Here's one in a catalogue on a Spanish auction.
What interested me about this is that the catalogue was dated 1972.
Captain Scarlet was long gone by then but here we have the Angel Interceptor appearing on top of the futuristic truck.
Is this just extended knock-off mileage or was Captain Scarlet and the Angel Interceptor still in the public eye in any way - TV, comics, annuals, toys - in the UK and Europe in 1972?
I believe Captain Scarlet was in syndication around the world well into the early 1970s. I first saw it on New York TV during the 1970-1971 television season, and I bet it was playing somewhere in the U.S. even later. Still my favorite Supermarionation series!
ReplyDeleteThanks Zigg. So the Captain was alive and kicking into the Seventies. It makes more sense for me now as regards tarheel's Captain Scarlet/ Project SWORD crossover toys. there are two we know about: an SPC and Dart Gun set. Branded as SWORD they are clearly from the JR21 Captain Scarlet toy range from 1967. I wondered why and now see that American kids will have known about the Captain.
DeleteThe show was still being repeated on TV in the '70s, and the comic strip also appeared in Countdown until it changed into TV Action in March/April '72.
ReplyDeleteCheers Kid. So the Captain trundled on here til 72 eh. In my own mind its very 1960's and I only associate UFO with the early 1970's. I really do need to unlock my memories properly!
DeleteIm born 1970 but scarlet was still in dinky catalogues and my brother had a stingray kit in 1974 and him being 8 years older was still into both those shows in australia
ReplyDeleteWow, a Stingray kit in 1974. Wonder what make that was Konsum?
