light up the sky with schermuly rockets



Derek Meddings' own brand of 'fireworks' used in his team's model engines were the distinctively named Schermuly rockets.

You Tube has a little bit of stuff about this brand of miniature propulsion like the test footage above.

You can compare it with the launch engines of the Thunderbirds fleet as seen in this documentary.



Have you any experience of Schermuly rockets?

  1. The British army parachute-flares were Schermuly-powered! I don't know if they still are (probably all BAeSystems now?) but we used to have tons of fun with a box-full on Bonfire night . . . and the next day we'd go up on to the heath to see if we could find the parachutes for Action-man . . . in the snow, remember when we used to have snow in November!
