Yeah, they filed for bankruptcy. One of the oldest local ones closed last year, but I've been to another recently and it seemed quite busy. From what I heard on a radio interview the company had a lot of expences on fancy new corporate offices but failed to develop its online presence the way some other traditionally B&M stores have. The opinion was that the stores should do more to let kids engage with the toys, have a place for them to try out bikes and such.
I suppose giant companies either grow forever or dramatically sink. I hope they survive. I've had great times checking out the clearance shelves of Toys R Us! I never expected them to clear out completely.
I was just in my local one today. I say 'local', but as it's in another neighbourhood I've only been in it around 2 or 3 times in all the years it's been there. Bought the 50th Anniversary Action Man Footballer for £25. It would be a shame if the shop closed.
Nah, you get Action Man in his football kit, a dog tag, and a football. He's got real hair and gripping hands - not sure whether the original one did or not. Still nice though. Will be posting a photo of him soon.
I believe its parent company (in US?) is heading for bankruptcy.

ReplyDeleteThat's a fantastic buy Kid! I loved my footballer fifty years ago! Do you still get the fake grass base and stand?
