Did you have iron-on patches when you were a kid?
I loved those things and had them splattered all over my denim jacket.
I think my favourite was the peace sign.
There were so many in the early Seventies: peace, CND, keep on truckin. They were a must have item.
You can still get some patches in haberdashers and markets but I think the iron-on ship has sailed.
Did you have any readers?
In the 70's I could get them at mom & pop stores.I tended to like monsters or Jaws iron ons.Small ones could be had by popping a coin into a vending machine. Those tended to be symbols like peace signs, ecology,Harley Davidson, or happy faces.Going into the 80's shops appeared in our malls where you chose your iron on from catalogs on the counter, then chose a T Shirt color, and a clerk would press your custom shirt in a jiffy.By the end of the eighties,I was into buying sew on patches of punk and metal bands and putting them on a denim jacket or vest, the end result looking kind of like Lemmy,or Viv from The Young Ones.
ReplyDeleteDid you see The Young Ones in the States? Wow! Yeah, I remember those iron on t shirt shops Bri. They were everywhere at one time. Now it can alle done online. You don't even need to go up town!
DeleteYes .Thanks to MTV who imported the series. My brother has The Young Ones on VHS tapes and I borrow them often.
