will you be going to skull island?

With talk of Apes on the blog I wondered if you will be going to see the latest Hollywood incarnation of King Kong this March,
KONG SKULL ISLAND?

Which was your fave and least fave Kong film so far?

Do you like Kong films generally and have you any toys or collectables to share with us?

  1. I didn't know about the Movie, Woodsy, but I like the dramatic Apocalypse Now meets King Kong hybrid poster art.

    1. Yes its an unusual poster Tone. Very little of it is given over to Kong and you would think its a war movie looking at it I agree. I just hope Kong survives in this one.

  2. I don't think I'll be bothering, I'm afraid I'm not really interested in King Kong. If you're talking Apes, I have enjoyed the remakes of the Planet of the Apes movies, Rise and Dawn, and got them both on Blu-ray. I'll probably see War for the Planet of the Apes when it's released in July.

    1. Yep, the modern POTA movies are ace Scoop. Andy Serkis is amazing. Did you like the 2001 production by Tim Burton?

  3. I've seen them all so far,so I'm definitely on board.I was awestruck by the original, first siding with the dinosaurs and then championing Kong at the end.I also watched the Rankin Bass cartoon after school.I saw the Dino Delaurentis version during Christmas vacation from school,I guess that was 1976.I believe that one is much better on a huge screen with a big sound system.Soon afterward, local tv stations dug out old flicks like King Kong Escapes and King Kong versus Godzilla and put them on Sunday afternoons.I found them fun and comical.I went to a midnight sneak preview showing for Peter Jackson's version, and enjoyed it a lot,but I think my fave is definitely the original.Least fave has to be King Kong Lives, but I'll watch it if it's part of an all night moviethon.I did see toys for the new flick are available, sold only at Walmart I hear.I'll have to look into that.

    1. You really are a fan Brian! Like you its the original I like the best. When I was a kid I had a Famous Monsters comic and it showed the great Willis O'Brien working in the film and also Forry Akkerman actually owning the models later on. I was amazed that the props could be owned by a private individual and gave me my first sense of collecting. I've a couple of the boxed games from the Dino Delaurentius film which are cool. What do you think of Mighty Joe Young the original?

    2. It's all good,Mighty Joe included. You could also throw in Konga,A*P*E,The Mighty Peking Man, and The Mighty Gorga as I have them kicking around on VHS.Giant monsters are fascinating to me, be they dinosaurs,apes,sharks,insects,extraterestrials...all good.

    3. ah yes, KONGA the British Kong. I have a beautiful vintage paperback film tie-in of that film, a treasure. I love the shot in the movie where KONGA is next to Big Ben, the most iconic building we had in London at the time and a tea-time attempt at recreating King Kong and the Empire State Building scenes on the original! As regards big new monsters what do you think of the modern Kaiju film phenomenon?
