Apollo Moon Expo Stage II

Continuing my look at the world of Apollo Moon Exploring, here are some shots from Paul Vreede, from his personal collection which he has prepared as part of an ongoing space toy project. Paul has a more complete boxed set, plus one or two colour and model variations.

  2. Thanks Ed!

I should point out that a few of the toys pictured are very recent copies (bought from the cupcake girl on Etsy). Off the top of my head they are the tall orange rocket, the righthand saucer, yellow crawler and the Mercury capsule with the 'made in China' sticker on it. Other than being crisper castings and a slightly harder plastic, the only real difference is in the wheels on that saucer being different from any of the originals.

  3. Really nice stuff.
I'm surprised to see the tracked vehicles amongst the sets. I had these some years before any of what I now know to be the Apollo sets, perhaps as early as 1963-4.

  4. Therein lies the problem Andy, theres a lot of cross cultural fertilisation with similar toys

  5. We should've pointed out that this is as complete a line-up as I have for LP toys in that scale (missing three other tracked vehicles and a saucer on legs). The ApEx boxed set only contained one 'Moon Car' in yellow (the tracked vehicle with the streamlined body), and didn't have the little orange buggy either.

  6. I'm going to have to revisit Lulu's Cupcake Boutique to see if she's offering any more cool stuff

  7. Simply amazing photos, Bill, have you considered writing an article about the Apollo set for publication outside of MC ?
