AURORA MODEL DREAMING

Aurora models were as much a part of a late Sixties and early Seventies childhood as a Chopper Bike and chocolate brazils.

King Kong, Godzilla, Phantom of the Opera, Wolf Man, Dracula and my personal favourite the Addams Family House, to name but a few, were all important models on any Aurora monster display worth its salt, never mind all the super heroes and everything else they produced.

Playing Mantis-Polar Lights / Meobius recycled many of these models for a modern generation and added a few more monsters.

Personally I'd love to see an Aurora Night of the Demon kit and one of the Poe tale The Cask of Armontilado.

If you had control of new Aurora models. which would you add readers?

  1. Daleks would be nice. Also Frankenstein, Dracula & Wolfman altogether on the one base. Supergirl, Yogi Bear, Flintstones, Thor, etc. I could go on forever. Good question.

While I was never a figure modeller, having only tried a few, I would love to see a complete set of James Bond models, with some of the more colourful villains such as Odd Job and Jaws. Just checked my copy of Aurora Model Kits by Thomas Graham, and found they did do 1:8 scale kits of Bond (Sean Connery) and Odd Job, along with The Man from U.N.C.L.E. figures. Airfix also did a 1:12 double kit of Bond and Odd Job that was re-issued some years ago. How about John Steed and Emma Peel from The Avengers ?

    1. Good choice Paul. Diana Rigg actually hails from Doncaster about ten miles away from where I live now. Probably Doncaster's most famous female. I looked up Aurora Avengers just for a laugh and lo and behold, someone has done a box at least! https://www.monstersinmotion.com/cart/movie-tv-model-kits-c-271_281/avengers-mrs-emma-peel-aurora-fantasy-box-p-15984.html If I had the dosh I'd go for an Emma Peel Doll https://www.vectis.co.uk/lot/the-avengers-emma-peel-doll-attributed-to-fairylite_532260 Better still I'd like to find one at a fleamarket!

The 'Aurora' Emma Peel box was beautiful, and expensive. The real Aurora certainly should have kitted her, and Steed. If you keep showing such treasures as the Emma Peel doll, you may turn me into a doll collector. My two favourite female action stars of the 1960s were Emma Peel and Lady Penelope - yes, I do realise Lady Penelope is a puppet.
