THE GERRY ANDERSON VINTAGE COMIC COLLECTION
Eaglemoss publications have come up with a new series to please Gerry Anderson fans in the UK - The Gerry Anderson Vintage Comic Collection.
http://www.gerry-anderson-collection.com/
According to their website they intend to publish a series of fifty bound volumes featuring at least three stories in each, along with other features like cut away drawings and profiles on original artists and writers.
Most of the material they'll be using looks like it comes from City Magazines publications - TV21, Lady Penelope comic and Joe 90: Top Secret, but unlike most of the previous reprint comics and magazines it looks like they're also using other material from TV Comic, Countdown and Look - In . There might even be the possibility of material from vintage American publications featuring Supercar and Space 1999, but this is just my own personal speculation.
The only downside is the price which is hefty £28 per month for four issues. Subscribers could be tempted though, by some of the' free' gifts - die-cast models of Stngray, Thunderbird 2 and an SPV, along with a FAB 1 car number plate and a calender.
But, like most fans,I'll certainly be picking up the discounted first edition at the local newsagent.
Thats silly money for reprinted material on a monthly basis.
ReplyDeleteReports on the Fanderson forum and facebook say it's a trial of 5 or 6 issues on Southern England newsagents only. If popular enough it'll be rolled out across the UK. I agree it's very expensive, and most of the stories have been reprinted in the 90s comics and several volumes of hardback books. Look-In and Countdown comics being the exception. Fanderson comic fans can download most of the issues online anyway. The diecast toys for subscribers look interesting but not that accurate.
ReplyDeleteI must admit I'm not averse to this comic collection, as I like the idea of these collected works in hardback, although I agree it is a bit pricey.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I'm not keen on is the inclusion of Graham Bleatham's modern cutaways and artwork. This is supposed to be a 'Vintage' collection, and while Graham's excellent cutaway artwork is fine and most welcome in those 9O's juvenile publications I would prefer these books to be dedicated to the original art from the time . I feel the same about cover art, too.
I guess we'll be able to judge a little better once we get to see the first issue.
I won't grumble much since I'm in need of reprints.
ReplyDeleteI like compendium issues of old comics but at that price x 50 months I could pay off a credit card
