EBAY? YAY OR NAY?

Reading October's Collectors Gazette, the UK toy collecting newspaper, I was surprised to read the following statement by one of their journo's - basically that Ebay doesn't need collectors anymore. I must say I was startled. Has Ebay really become just a huge supermarket for new goods? I thought that was Amazon.

Admittedly the postage in the UK seems to have shot up this year, which must put some collectors off buying anything bigger than a dinky car, but is it enough to put collectors off in their droves?

What do you think readers? Do you still bid or buy on Ebay?

  1. Transatlantic postage has got even worse. Plus local customs starting to charge -hefty- percentages (plus costs for "formalities") on anything non-EU, basically because this banana republic can only balance its books by taxing the same people even more.

But if there's less collectors on epay then I hope at least that the bidding will start getting lower!

  2. I absolutely continue to use Ebay. For vintage kits and toys it's still the best option for me.3

  3. Speaking as someone with a connection to eBay, my wife has an online store there, we move quite a bit of collectible merchandise.

The toys we vend are from my personal collection but have not found there to be a lack of buyers for such items.

As is with any market, it's whether there's someone looking for that particular something as well as if the offering price is reasonable.
