Kevin D has just sent us this shot of a glorious Merit Super Sonic gun. Pressing the trigger lights up a bulb in the barrel and the yellow slide switch activates a sonic buzzer. Kev reports that the bulb holder was missing, so he updated it with an led. I had one of these as a nipper back around 66 and it was a favourite toy. The box graphics borrowed heavily from Dan Dare as can just be seen on similar toys on this catalogue spread.
That's a great looking gun. It has a wonderful art deco feel to it and full of fins similar to the old Daisy Wilma pistol - only in plastic.
ReplyDeleteI just noticed the pistol at the lower left of the ad, the #3550 Dan dare Planet Gun. It was this type that I had as a kid. Of course over here it would have been named something else as we had no idea who Dan Dare was. Also, the Dan Dare radio station listed at the upper left of the ad is a copy of the Remco station I just sold last year on fleaBay (unfortunately mine was missing the handsets)
