MOVIE QUICK REVIEW: ISLAND OF THE ALIVE [1987]

The second sequel to It's Alive, this movie sees our friend the monster baby banished to a tropical island. Here he somehow reproduces further terrifying toddlers who scare the locals witless. The film is another vehicle for B-movie star Michael Moriarty to flex his acting muscles trying to rescue his baby. It also stars Karen Black of Easy Rider fame . Not the Eighties best schlock horror I've seen but not the worst. Viewing format: VHS Big Box Video. Viewing Companion: Wotan. My score: 4 out of 10.

  1. Wel not having seen the first two, or been aware that 'Its Alive!' spawned two sequels, this was interesting. The stop motion baby was quite creepy. But then it kind of devolves into gross farce after a sudden change of heart by Mr Moriarty makes him feel sorry for the abomination. Then we jump forward a year or two and the children are exiled on a remote island, but have matured into shambling troglodytes. Production values were clearly spent on the baby puppet,so things go downhill! Definitely a well deserved flawed 4.
