Zylemex/Zee toys Metal Man range of figures from 1977.
An attempt to get a market share of the Mego//Takara Micronauts fever. Heavy die cast figures which have an almost fifties space chic to them. Majority came in the limited edition Sears box set.
That 12 piece set was a present I recieved on Christmas 1977.It made a nice addition to my already growing Micronauts collection. As you can see from your pictures, they were subject to discoloration over the years and are very fragile, however,I have retained all except the backpack in the lower left corner of the contents page.I have been planning to make a Christmas display under my tree that features my old Micronauts,Metal Men, and Shogun Warriors. If I can accomplish this, it will feature Rocket Tubes in place of the traditional Train Set and Porcelain village that I usually do.
Brian - the backpacks are very fragile, so its hardly surprising. The figures themselves are really durable and being metal, always benefit from a rub down with a little metal polish. Radon and his slightly battered companion in the chamber, arrived recently from ebay. Radon needed a respray of orange and Roton has a loose arm.
Rocket Tubes didn't seem to make it over here, along with most of the later series, so it would be good to see. I had some micropolis sets, but would have loved some 'tubes.
The gold robot is a sturdy boy.I bought him seperately at a local drugstore.Mine was all gold and came with a springloaded set of wings, kind of like Space Glider.
They also had a metal man soldier who had a smg and a "inflatable raft"
The thign I always recall from having several of the astronauts, is the jet pack chest strap would crack in the middle and it also looked like one of the landing leg pods of a Space 1999 eagle.
