During my brief sojourn with the gaffer at Moonbase, we uncovered some old toys in the MB archives. Among the goodies was a biscuit tin of small plastic toys. Amongst them were Kinder toys, small cracker gifts and some german made train items. Woodstock generously donated them to me as I love small sweet premium type toys. The trains came in 3 distinct types and sizes, the smallest, in an ivory colour plastic, was accompanied by buildings, a bridge, station and signal, none of which are over an inch long. Next came a three piece diesel engine and two carriages at about 2" long and finally, a variety of 3" long rolling stock made by Solo Effka. Woodstock tells me they would have been brought back from a trip to Germany, but we don't know anything else. Can anyone else help?
Check the German Flats link from my blog, there might be something there, but he's rally set it up to sell his check-lists which are worth every Euro!
ReplyDeleteNice lot Bill, pretty much like the Swedish Kalas Puffar.
ReplyDeleteSeems like these were "margarine toys", premiums included in margarine and pasta cartons by SOLO EFFKA GmbH. Scroll down tinyurl.com/atn7pef (about half-way down).
Cheers Arto
Margarine? How odd. Fabulous site, thanks a lit!
ReplyDeleteI had some of the larger plastic wagons, including the tanker you illustrated, together with a train (similar construction, black wheels underneath etc.) in the early 1960s. Can't remember where they came from though.
ReplyDeleteI share your enthusiasm for such "premiums"!
The old site referred to above is dead and there's not much left on the Waybackmachine...but you can try here;
