Eagle Expo

ANASTASIA
Way back in 1990, when I worked in Southport, the local Atkinson Gallery held an Eagle and Dan Dare exhibition to celebrate the work of Frank Hampson and the birth of Dan in a small corrugated lean to shed in nearby Churchtown village. Part of the exhibition centred around some astounding model work of ships featured in the strip such as the Anastasia. Fast forward to the present day and model maker Mike Burrows has unearthed some of the models from the exhibition, dusted them off and retouched a little flaking paint. Quality, I think you will agree, stand the test of time nicely.

  1. I must confess to almost complete ignorance of the Dan Dare universe, but yes, those are super models.

The Treen(s?) are the baddies, yes? What was "The Comet"?

  2. The Comet was the spacecraft used by Captain 'Space' Kingley who featured in three story books during the mid fifties created to cash in on Dan Dare's popularity.

  3. Great stuff. I never worked out how anyone was able to stand up inside the Anastasia despite being a good design it was rather cramped!

  5. Mike and Andy, a question for you (if you are still watching this posting) ...

Does Stripey ever wear a spacesuit in the Dan Dare comic strips? Someone just showed me a story from the CGI series where he does, and I'm wondering if that was also true in the original stories?
