THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS: LBZ PROJECT SWORD THUNDERBIRD 2 SPINNING TOP

Last month I was lucky enough to win this wonderful spinning top on Ebay. I had seen it earlier in the year but didn't bid first time round. I was thrilled when it was relisted 6 months later and I won! Made by LBZ of West Germany, its a real piece of SWORD obscura by any standards. Looking through the large plastic dome you can see first and foremost a beautiful bulky silver Thunderbird 2 flying around. Below and behind it is a plastic moonscape with rocks, craters and pools, on which are pictured various lunar vehicles: SCRAMBLE BUG, MOON PROSPECTOR, A MOONBASE TYPE HOUSING UNIT (with LBZ written on) and an octagonal tripod unit, which I just can't place. There are also two astronauts going about their business. All in all, absolutely SWORDtastic! But are there any more tops like this?

  2. No date on the top itself. It must be the late 60's or 70's, whilst space imagery was still hot for it to make its way into a spinning top! I don't know much about LBZ of Germany. They've done one with jets in too. My space one is a corker though!
