TOYS RETRIEVED FROM THE BIN: CLIFFORD COMPETITION RACING CAR TRANSPORTER

Here's the first in an occasional series of non - space toys I had as a nipper in the Sixties, which met their doom at the hands of my Mum, Dad and the Dustbin around the time I was 12! In the 1990's, with some hard-earned disposable wonga, I was able to buy back some of my lost gems -alas not my actual originals but they must have been someones Christmas treasures! Here's the fabulous plastic racing car transporter by Clifford. A sort of large plastic Ecurie Ecosse- style truck with a Lotus, BRM and more inside, it was, and is. a beautiful toy, which I adore! I only have the red racing car - anybody got the otheres? [first posted exactly one year ago].

  1. I think this is a copy of a Corgi diecast

  2. Hi, this one was much bigger than the Corgi I think. I still have the transporter, a yellow one, and sadly just one racer, a red Ford GT40. The others, I do remember them very well, were a blue Ferrari and a green Jaguar Le Mans. With these, the set comprised a man with a starters flag and a winners trophy cup. The sliding door could open and revealed a workshop bench with a rudimentary vice on it!

    1. Thanks a lot Ike. Are you describing the Corgi toy or the Clifford plastic one? Either way, you have a great memory for these things. I wish I did. I know I used to adore those small plastic figures like the starter flag man and the pit stop crew! Cheers. PS. If you would like to send a piccy of your transporter for the blog feel free, Woodsy. 3. Hi Woodsy,it is the Clifford I was writing about. My memory: well, it was really one of my most wanted toys as my mom refused to buy me a real electric slot car set...as ever she consulted other mothers, aunties etc. in the neighbourhood.
They considered slot cars as toys that did not last long, too much money spent for badly made plastic rubbish...
Too comfort me, she bought me at least this Clifford. Did not have an electric motor which hurt, but nevertheless I was more than happy. That is why I still remember the car and its sidekicks. Pictures will follow later.
    regards Ike
