Rob's Pyro Big Indian Chief

Woodsy,

Here is another blast from the past, the Pyro Plastics Indian Chief, a plastic model figure kit first issued in 1958, then again in the mid-1960s as a "Paint By Numbers" kit, and finally in 2024 reissued by Atlantis Models.

Pyro produced many fun figurative kits, including several "Cowboys & Indians," plus their legendary "Prehistoric Monsters" line.

Atlantis Model went the PC route and retitled this kit "Native American Big Chief," but he will always be Indian Chief to me!

  1. Hey Rob, is there a Ollie's Bargain Outlet near you? The one near Winsted was packed with these Atlantis reissues.

Another great re-issue from Atlantis. That is a beautiful paint job, just perfect.
The ground work on the base is also a nice touch.

  3. Yeah, Ollie’s has had a huge stock of Atlantis model kits for the last year. All for like 12.99 each. The one close to me had a top shelf full of that big chief model kit.

  4. What a fantastically detailed paint job Rob. I love it. Those colours take me right back to the Sixties when paint was paint and kits were everywhere. Superb stuff!

    1. Yes this one was really fun. I shy away from most figure kits, as the trend now is to so all sorts of washes and glazes and make the figure look super realistic - not my thing. But Big Chief looks like he could be standing in front of a 1967 cigar store somewhere! SFZ

  6. I recently saw built-ups of the Aurora King Kong and Prisoner of Castle Mare and thought of you SF. They needed your painting skills.
