My secondary school, a catholic high, was a good way away from home so it required a decent stroll and a bus journey.
The walk was OK but ever day it became tedious. My mates made it doable.
The bus journey, specially the return, wasn't great.
A double decker of teenage dark energy!
I got stuffed inside a box seat at the back once and missed my stop by loads!
Sounds funny now but it wasn't at the time!
Thank God those bus journeys are over!
How did you get to school readers?
When I was still in England, my Ifant and Junior schools were about a 20 minute walk from my home, so I did a lot of walking as a kid!
ReplyDeleteWhen we moved to Australia, our temporary home to my school in the Eastern suburbs was about 27 minutes by foot, or one bus ride. When we moved across Sydney to the Western suburbs, there was an available school at the top of our street. But having already switched through two schools, I decided to keep going to my Eastern suburbs school, which meant two bus rides each way.
I was very glad when I finally finished School!
My school was across town, but I walked. I have always been a fast walker, so much so that for a few years, I used to go home for lunch and still made it back to school for the afternoon!
ReplyDeleteUsed to walk to my Infant and Junior Schools, as they were 5 t0 10 minutes away.
ReplyDeleteWent by free bus to my Grammar School, in Saltaire, for a couple of years, but when it turned Comprehensive they started to charge, so I had to walk (about 30 mins).
Went past Salt's Mill (now an art gallery) every day Woodsy, along the canal towpath.
