Ever since I first saw Tron way back when I've been hooked.
The geometry, the costumes, the grid, Flynns, the bikes, the whole techno world: I loved it all, which looking back, is odd, as I'm not a gamer at all. In fact I've never played a single computer game in my life.
A few years back I saw the superb Tron sequel, Legacy and just this week I caught the new Tron Ares.
I was blown away, I loved it as well.
No spoilers here. Needless to say the whole Tron architecture is still there, all the sights, all the lines, all the sounds.
Wunderbar!
Is it something you would see readers?

Saw the original Tron.
ReplyDeleteDecided it wasn't my thing.
Also, much of it wasn't done on computers, but was faked, for real, with physical effects.
As for the revamp, not really interested.

Funny story about Tron, the original. I saw this in the theater, first-run, and loved it. I worked at a toy store then, and customers would come in and we would discuss Tron. One guy especially, was kind of obsessed with it. Brought in his own fan art about it and everything.
ReplyDeleteA very vivid memory, that. Here's the problem: I worked at that store from 1977 -1980, at which point it closed. A very definite date, as I started working at a bank in 1980. Tron is stated as having been released first in 1982. So what am I remembering? Was there an original release of Tron that was erased from the history books? Or where is that vivid memory of all those Tron discussions coming from?
That is one of my favorite "life mysteries," and it has never been solved to my satisfaction.
Memory is a funny thing, I know, but so is cultural history...
