Marx Batman: the Wet Knight

(Image: AJ, Facebook)

I've been interested in Batman collectables my whole adult life and a few have always remained a mystery.

The Marx Batman carded figure is such a one, an unusual set.

First up, the bat mask looks more like a salad bowl than his classic cowl. I guess the shape is to fit the swimming goggles over his face.

But then, yes, there's the whole underwater theme, what with those air tanks, which look like something from another set. Batman wasn't well known for his swimming, so it's an odd theme for a toy contemporary with the Adam West TV series.

Did Marx rush to get this out?

Anyone got one?

  1. Is this definitely a legit item? Theres a lot wrong with the set - spider webs on the logo, the distorted logo on the figure itself, snow shoes and skis and the articulation on the figure looks odd too. Bill

  2. Yep, just double checked on Ed Kelly's 100 rarest batman toys and it's on page 21, 1966 Marx Batman with Accessories https://share.google/sPtMOYbmOWARNMzx3 I've never seen one in the flesh.

  3. Just another example of a company cashing in on a
    Franchise using
Surplus stock and putting together a product thats not really quite all there!

  4. If only Marx had done a Batman figure in the manner of all the wild west stuff they did....

  5. How cool! I love it when toymakers took whatever products they had laying around and slapped on the latest TV franchise! SFZ

  6. Second SFZ there! The goofier the better. I wonder if the card art at the sides is trying to depict Batcave? Hilarious!
