THE TV FANTASY WORLDS OF IRWIN ALLEN

Before I  post a piece on the VTTBOTS Gold Key comics, as  reader, Lewis mentioned the Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea theme, I thought I'd dig out my soundtrack CD's of Irwin Allen's TV series.

I've got just  the 5 individual discs dedicated to each show , although there is another exclusive bonus disc that comes with a compilation bumper set which features interviews and alternative themes.

  1. Ah yes! I was going to mention this box set, which was one of my favourite listening experiences. One slight annoyance was the VTTBS end theme (extended) that wasn't-by mistake they repeated the short version. I ended up finding it elsewhere on some TV show compilation disc. The original movie soundtrack is probably more difficult to track down, but worth it!
As an aside, being a big fan of Jerry Goldsmith, I was surprised his second season theme for Voyage wasn't as evocative as Paul Sawtell's original.
Jerry's version was dark and mysterious, but it didn't have the heroic flourishes to counter the overbearing downbeat air.

    1. If I remember, didn't they use Goldsmith's theme a couple of times as closing music and then dropped it. I seem to recall it might have been used as incidental music as well.
