Hello Moonbasers! The Missus and I visited the Hurstville Collectables Fair and caught up with our old mate Glen Ware, who organised the Jonathan Harris "Never fear, Smith is here" Australian tour last century!
As a mixed toy and record Fair, the records seem to be rising in number, the toys were pretty thin by comparison.
The venue was the Marana Auditorium.
A full squad of hand painted Marx knights.
I actually found a Dinky Spitfire in pretty good condition (although possibly repainted) but as put off by the ugly Typhoon style lower cowling (I've just thought it might have been to accommodate the internal electric motor to spin the propellor)
There was a Corgi and Dinky arms race going on!
A brace of Dinky Star Trek ( later issue?) Ships and Geoff Love who was a big feature in my late teens! I had that Tee Vee Tunes 2 disc vinyl set on CD, back in the day...
The auditorium almost inundated with LP's rather than toys! (Who IS that woman on the scooter?
Is she really 69?)
Three strikes and he's out...
A vintage Matt Mason accessory, but nothing is priced -Strike 1!
It's been opened -Strike 2!
So HOW much is it? He can't tell me until he's Googled how much they're going for on Ebay!!!
$190, but he'll knock of a few bucks for the damaged pack...
STRIIIKE 3 -AND HE'S OUT!
I did get a bunch of vintage DVDs for $3, 2 &1 each and the Missus got a 1999 Cinefantastique Stop Motion double issue, with Ray Harryhausen on the cover!!
Oh, and NZ Paul, you know that Barbie Movie Corvette 4 pack?
...they didn't have it!
Happier Hunting in the Old Dart, Woodsy!
Looey
Oz
Ooh, I used to have that Matt Mason thingie. Mine was broken in no time...
ReplyDeleteThank you for looking. That Spitfire is wearing a desert colour scheme, so perhaps it is a sand filter under the nose ? Or a battery pack.
ReplyDeleteInteresting.
DeleteI never realised the Battle for Britain was waged over the sands of North Africa...
Quite coincidentally, the hero Spitfire that will feature in my film will have a faded desert (tropical) camouflage scheme, even although it will be flying over England's green and pleasant land ..
I was interested in a Dinky Spitfire to cobble together a faux "toy from the film" for the Special Features.
As it is, I'll modify a 1/72 scale kit with a Corgi style cardboard plinth!
The Dinky Spitfire had the battery inside the fuselage. You had to remove a screw and pull the plastic section off to change it. It did not change the classic lines of the Spitfire.
DeleteCrazy price for the Corgi Enterprise, nearly £150 quid in UK money, but the Klingon Cruiser is a bit more reasonable at just over £70.
ReplyDeleteI've still got that Geoff Love 'Stars Wars' record. It's got an epic version of Space:1999 and UFO on it!
Looey - looks like an interesting day at the Fair - I agree with your declining the Matt Mason item - $190 seems a lot when it's opened and missing a lot of the accessories... Re. the Jonathan Harris Australian tour - I recall meeting Jonathan Harris and getting his signature at a meet and greet in Australia in the 90s - I assume that was on the same tour? Cheers, Tony
ReplyDeleteLooking at that spitfire, I don’t believe it is a spitfire. The canopy is too long, you’ve got long gun barrels in wings, the nose is off and of course, it’s been repainted. It looks more like a typhoon model, but dinky didn’t make one of those. It could be a hurricane but the nose is off and the wingtips are wrong for that one. Then again, it may not be a dinky toy at all. Nothing in corgi seems to match and given the very poorly proportioned decals, and sloppy fitting of parts, I’d wager some sort of knock off.
ReplyDeleteIt is a Spitfire, probably a really bad attempt at a Mark Vb, with two 20mm cannon and four .303 machine-guns. Marked under the starboard wing Universal Product, and copyright 1977, with Spitfire under the port wing. Made in Hong Kong under the tail. I will send photos.
ReplyDeleteAh, Universal Product. Found one on eBay in rough condition for 7.50 $ US. It’s a hot mess of a plane. The junkiness of the canopy at first made me think it was a Zee Toys/Zylmex plane. But those are much smaller. Thanks for sharing the whole series of pics and kind of relieved but sad some collectors want insane prices worldwide.
